Put Your Best Foot Forwards This Springtime
How often do you think about your feet? The chances are, probably not very often.
Our feet are incredibly important to our daily movements and after years of neglect, squeezing your feet into high heels, or spending large amounts of the day walking around, they probably could do with some TLC, especially as spring and sandal season is upon us.
There are 26 bones in your feet, along with 33 joints, over a 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons and thousands of nerve endings. It is this perfect community working together that allows us to stand and balance as well as walk and move. Our feet are the very foundation of our bodies and they have to bare the weight of our entire body.
To keep your feet healthy and ready for your summer sandals here are some simple tips you can do to keep your feet happy.
Washing – make sure that you regularly wash your feet as this will help to prevent fungal infections from occurring. It is incredibly important to ensure that you dry your feet properly after bathing or showering, especially between your toes. You might also like to give yourself a nice foot spa once or twice a month.
Toe nail care – cutting your toe nails will help to reduce the chance of developing ingrown nails and nail impingement in your shoes, but you should always cut your nails straight across and never around or down the edges. Once you have cut your nails you can decorate them with some nice spring or summer inspired nail polish.
Shoes – now whilst we all love a good summer shoe it is important to make sure that they fit well and support your feet. Poor fitting shoes can cause pain in a number of areas on your feet and can cause bunions and hammertoes. Make sure that when you buy a new pair of shoes that you check the width fitting as well as the length.
Silky smooth – to keep your feet smooth and silky you need to moisturise them at the end of each day and why not give them a little massage too? You may also want to purchase a foot file to help keep down any dry skin that forms on your heels.
Socks – don’t be tempted to wear the same pair of socks for more than one day. Changing your socks on a daily basis helps with good foot hygiene and can help prevent foot infections from occurring.
So, before you step out in the beautiful spring sun in your sandals, give your feet some tender loving care and a bit of a spruce and be the envy of all of your friends.
