Due to an impending major hip operation…….., I made the decision to retire a couple of years earlier than the current pensionable age. This also meant that I needed to downsize  and release equity in my 3 bed detached bricks and mortar property, but finding another suitable bungalow in the Bath area proved impossible: Consequently, I started to consider Residential Park Home living, which as a single person I hoped would also offer me a safe, quiet and community-biased environment. I visited a total of 10 parks across Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucester, Dorset and Devon over a period of many months through the Spring, Summer and Autumn of 2018, but hadn’t found a mix of quite the right location, park or home. Although I had not previously considered the Swindon area, I arranged to view a new home available at Blunsdon Abbey Park. The home itself had already been reserved, but I really liked the feel and layout of the park – more akin to a village, than anything I’d seen before.  I also visited an open day at Twigworth, where I was very impressed with the look and layout of the Oakgrove model, which I had not previously come across. The Sales Manager Helen, advised that 2 new plots were planned for release at Blunsdon and when available I took the opportunity of placing an “Early Bird” deposit in order to secure. As this was a new plot, I’ve had the unique experience of customising my new home and selecting everything – from external cladding colours, to flooring, soft furnishings, kitchen units and fittings, wall colours, furniture and the landscaping including an extensive decking area. The design team meeting was certainly full-on and the choices were extensive, but with the assistance of Anne from Oakgrove, Helen and my Brother and Sister-in-Law, it was a thoroughly enjoyable and supportive experience, only bettered by seeing my completed home “in the flesh” when I viewed just prior to moving-in. I think it is very modern, spacious and beautiful and far surpasses anything I could possibly afford in a conventional home. There is a very active social and entertainment committee at Blunsdon and the people I have already met have been friendly and welcoming, so I’m looking forward to making new friends, getting to know the area and even getting a local part time job once I’m settled. I would also like to pay a big complement to Helen, as from my initial enquiry to the completion of all the final paperwork, the customer service and communication has been excellent, with all of my numerous questions and queries being addressed promptly and professionally, resulting in making the whole buying and moving experience as easy and stress-free as possible.
