There are plenty of jobs to do in the Springtime. The Garden needs to be made ready for summer. Holidays need to be prepared for but one of the most arduous and rewarding jobs is that of the spring cleaning. It’s the time of year when the spring warmth means you can throw open the doors and windows and let some fresh air get into the place. In itself, this is an improvement but it’s soon time to start getting the dwelling back to a sense of freshness that only the springtime can bring. So, if your living room is starting to look like Miss Havisham’s dining room from Great Expectations, then it’s time to get the Vacuum and the cleaning products out.
The best place to start is with the windows. If you’re not keen to spend out on a professional, there are plenty of supermarket cleaners that will do a good job. Dry the windows with newspaper rather than a towel or cloth to avoid streaks or residue. A good stand by is to use some clear vinegar.
Now it’s time to move on to the dusting. This is the kind of job that never truly ends. There will always be dust and trying to live in a dust-free environment is not really possible. That being said, it’s not a good idea to let dust pile up. Dust mites and other allergies can be made very much worse if dust is allowed to accumulate. Luckily, there are plenty of cleaning materials on hand to help you combat this. Wipes are now available that can remove dust quickly and cleanly, plus they will apply a healthy dose of antibacterial coating to the area. However, this is not the most environmentally friendly approach and you should look to get ones that are biodegradable as not all are. Also, whatever you do, do not flush them. They will cause a blockage. A good dust cloth, which can be reused is probably better.
There is nothing better than exposing the whole place to some natural light. The first sign of Sunshine and warmth is the cue to open the doors and windows and let the sunshine in. It will also make spotting the aforementioned dust easy to spot!
Your carpets or hard floors will have also taken a bit of beating during the winter months. A decent carpet cleaner can be owned to rented for reasonable prices but if it’s looking particularly bad then the services of a professional might be called for. It’s worse if you have pets or are the outdoors type that has still gone out during the winter to get some good walks in.
