Whilst the weather is good it is the time to make the most of spending time outdoors. Dining alfresco is a great way to get out of doors and enjoy the local countryside. Whether a romantic picnic for two, fun and games for all the family or a relaxing picnic for one with some good food and a good book. Here are some of the best picnic spots in the county for you to enjoy this summer…
Robinswood Hill Country Park – This has everything you could want for a picnic – and more! Situated near to the centre of Gloucester, this is the perfect place for a family picnic. There are plenty of picnic benches and even toilets on site. The park spans approximately two hundred and fifty acres of countryside which includes nature trails and walks to the summit of the hill where you can see for miles around the county and beyond – from the west you will even be able to make out the black mountains in Wales!
Cannop Ponds – Head to the Forest of Dean for a picnic at Cannop ponds. This is the perfect place for a picnic, the beautiful ponds are home to a variety of ducks and other wildlife such as dragonflies – remember to take some wild bird seed for the ducks to enjoy! Wander around the ponds and through the forest. There also some cycling trails around the ponds which go past the car park and the picnic area.
Westonbirt Arboretum – This spectacular arboretum dates back to Victorian times and is home to over 2,500 species of tree, including some extremely rare trees that the arboretum is protecting and helping to grow. It is easy to enjoy a picnic in this beautiful place, and you can enjoy a woodland walk. There are often plenty of family activities going on at the arboretum, so if you take little ones they will be well entertained.
