Christmas dinner is one of the best times of the year. It’s where we all get to come together to share laughs and each other’s company over a lovely plate of food. However, there is one part of the Christmas dinner that also needs to be looked at. This is the table decorations. Having a beautifully decorated table is one of the joys of the season and can really enhance the whole experience. What are the best things to include?
Start with the basics first. For many of us, there is a special set of plates and cutlery that only ever come out to be used for this time of year. It might be that they are an heirloom, why not dust them off and get them ready? You’ll need a soup bowl, roll plate, main course and pudding bowl depending on how much you’re going to eat.
If you have a special canteen of cutlery it’s time to get that out as well. Food always tastes better when there is a combination of a hefty knife and fork in your hands and the special plates to go with it. Secondly, invest in a nice wine holder. There are plenty of Christmas themed ones out there.
When serving the stuffing and the Vegetables you should try and use some nice serving bowls, preferable with a lid to keep them warm. There are some lovely gravy boats that you can use. Rather than have some old plastic jug, why not bring out the gravy in a nice ceramic one? This can be festive too.
With the cutlery and plates sorted, let’s look at the decoration itself. Christmas themed tablecloth is a great place to start and you can even have themed chair covers. The good thing is these will protect your table and chairs as well! Each person should have a nice napkin and these do not need to be too pricey, although the rings to hold the napkins do bring a certain quality.
If you like them, crackers are always a fun and traditional way of celebrating. The jokes don’t get any younger, or change but they are still fun. Who will be the last one with the paper crown on their heads come teatime?
Finally, and this is optional, there is the centrepiece. A single candle with holly, pine cones and maybe some tinsel around it is a great simple and effective addition. Many people choose a poinsettia.
Hopefully, this should give you some ideas but don’t forget, there is less than a month to go!
